So people are getting killed for no reason. Why should I be shocked that they're handcuffing children? It's only going to get worse

I've seen a 5 year old in a psych unit break someone's nose. If they're being violent then I'd say its necessary. If not they don't need to be humiliated. I've also been chased by an autistic child with a butcher knife who was 10 when I was a nanny. Sometimes safety (for eveyone) needs to come first.

This make me so freaking enraged. The crap that goes on in these special needs classrooms needs to stop. How many times a year does a special needs child need to be locked in a closet, beaten by a teacher, left in a corner or handcuffed by a cop at the freaking elbows before we put cameras in every special Ed classroom!?  I once walked into my felt something was off regarding my daughter and her gen ed teacher (she didn't switch to special ed until 4th grade). So I snuck in to her class (signed in at the office of course) and sat in the coat room withing the class (something I did often) this woman had my daughter in her wheelchair, facing the corner while she taught the other kids. Mind you my daughters disabilities don't cause angry or violent outbursts.... I was enraged and threw a fit. The teacher was forced into early retirement soon after, I can't even imagine if THIS had happened to her. You ladies know that feeling of rage you get when someone hurts your typical child? The momma bear? Well multiply that by a million and that's how a special needs parent feels.  I wouldn't stop until they had zero chance of working with disabled people again.

Go for it. Violence has no age requirement. Children (particularly mentally disabled) can be brutal and violent. How else is the police supposed to stop movement? Sit on them? Handcuffing is a perfectly fine way of restraining anyone.

It's bad enough that a shocking number of our law enforcement officers (who, in case anyone has forgotten, are supposed to PROTECT and SERVE) are treating adults badly (sometimes even taking lives with no reason) but our kids too?

At what point do we finally say enough is enough?

I'm am ashamed but not surprised (which is sad) that this happened in my state.

I had a teacher in third grade who was forced to resign after she duct taped a student to a chair. This was around twenty five years ago and even back then people were outraged. The only difference I see here is that he had a badge. And that, imo, makes the situation even scarier.

Awful. I read an article recently about new techniques being tried out in schools for kids with severe behavior problems. At a certain point kids become numb and don't care about punishment. Handcuffing children and treating them like criminals won't help. It just makes the school systems feel "tough on crime".

Since I couldn't add this to my post: Personally, I would be so mad if someone took my kids away from the classroom and punished them like that without my consent. Also, it seems especially mean to do that to autistic and ADHD kids. What do you think???
