What age do you think it's okay to have a promise ring with you SO?

I'm 17, dating my boyfriend for two years. Do you think I'm too young to have a promise ring with him? I mean people have kids younger than me.. I don't want anything like that I just want that certain commitment with him!

I never understood the point of promise rings. Especially as teens. You guys will probably end up changing and meeting someone new. It's very rare to marry your high school sweetheart.

I think you're too old. I've always seen promise rings as something little kids and preteens do (like with cheap plastic rings). It's like a pinky swear, but in ring form, and I've never met a 17 year old who still does the whole pinky swear thing.

My husband gave me a promise ring when I was 16 he was 19 we had been together for a year. My parents were not a fan of it until they saw the depth of our relationship. After our relationship servived his basic training, family started realizing there was a special bond between him and I. We got married when I was 18 he was 21. We have since then servived a year deployment and started a family! He is my high school sweetheart. We have been together for 8 years now and going strong. You only live once, do what makes you happy and follow your heart. Age has nothing to do with it I think it's more about how mature you guys are as well as your relationship. Best of luck to you!

I got promise rings with my boyfriend when I was 17 we just got simple white gold matching bands. 8 years later and we are still together engaged with a baby on the way. I don't see anything wrong with it and it's not like you are getting engaged it's just a physical symbol that you two are committed to each other

I've had 3 promise rings from 3 different guys, all when I was 17, and not a single one lasted. I was also a virgin with all 3 just  so that's clear lol. They mean nothing. It's not a promise of any sort. It's just a piece of jewelry that is a nice gesture.

I've seen several people my age and around my age (I'm 16) and they usually do promise rings when they've only been with their partner for like a month and then they break up soon after. But with you, I say yes do it because you've been together for 2 years so I say yes it's cute

I think promise rings are silly and a ring doesn't make any commitment more certain. But I know how you feel, you want something that feels "sealed" but honestly the only way to get that is by living it. Not physical objects that "mean" something.
