Blue hair fading and running...???

Question

I let my daughter get peekaboo highlights in cobalt blue. Well...they were supposed to be cobalt, but they turned out more like navy blue. Anyway, she washed it for the first time tonight, and now the color looks more like pale blue. We got a special conditioner recommended by the stylist to help the color stay, but it obviously didn't work. The color is also bleeding off on everything...skin, clothes, furniture. I paid a lot of money for this. Is this normal? What should I do?

Colors like that always wash out/bleed. The colorist did nothing wrong. The only way to keep "trendy" colors is to have the hair recolored every 3 weeks and to try not to wash it as much as possible. Conditioner isn't the problem, it could be whatever shampoo you're using, it could be stripping the color at a more rapid pace. Use a sulfate free shampoo designed specifically for color treated hair. It will fade out the with every wash and the stylist should've informed you of that.

With colors like that I used to only use conditioner in my hair and only used shampoo every few days. Shampoo is what kills it. Try not to wash it a lot. You could go to Spencers or maybe hot topic and grab a blue hair dye, I recommend manic panic, and touch it up yourself. The color always shows up darker at first and fades with every wash.

When my hair was Ariel red what I did do keep it fresh was. I bought a manic panic dye and every week I would mix 1 or 2 tsp of the manic panic with enough conditioner to cover my whole head and apply this to clean dry hair. I would cover it and leave it in for an hour and then rinse it out with cold water. It left my hair looking brand new and nourished bc of the conditioner. Much cheaper this way as a bottle of manic panic is $11 and i would use cheap conditioner and this method would get me by until I had to touch up my roots !

She probably did it with a Demi permanent dye(that's what the bright colors normally are) it washed out of my hair super fast! I ended up getting my money back because she didn't tell me it would fade out with in like 3 washes! I wonder if they even make permanent dyes in fun colors?

Color safe shampoo is more important than conditioner. It also helps to wash your hair in cool water instead of hot. I dyed my hair bright pink with Special Effects brand hair dye and I loved it. It stayed vibrant for about 4 weeks, 6 or more in some spots and I didn't have any color bleeding after the first shower.

With "unnatural" hair colors dry shampoo will be your best friend! Try to use it instead of shampooing your hair every time you shower. And when you shampoo your hair try to use the coldest water that you can. That closes the cuticle of the hair and keeps the color longer.

It has happened with me before. The first and only time I ever got my hair colored at a salon, it washed out within a few days. But of course I had to sign a paper saying that me choosing the bright color, I wouldnt be able to get a refund or recolor( without payment ) since bright colors tend to wash out and bleed.

Did they stylist use permanent color or temporary?

Colors like that tend to fade with a few washes. :( maybe talk to the stylist again
