Anyone have alternative ideas to baby shower?

I really don't want to have a traditional baby shower! It will literally be almost a year to the day from my bridal shower! I made a suggestion to my hubby about maybe doing an open house style thing but he said men don't go to the Baby showers... just wondering what others have done

Is this your first baby? If it is I think there is nothing wrong with having a regular baby shower.. If it's not, I also feel like there's nothing wrong with it but if you do.. You could do a "sip and see" after the baby is born, basically just a party and people can bring gifts but don't have to.. But if it's your first I say have a legit shower so you can get all the stuff you need!

My mom wanted to do something different for me too, I think I'm going to invite a bunch of girls to go get pink or blue pedicures and have a mani/pedi party

I like showers because a bunch of girls get together and hang out and have fun. Something we never make time for. Ya know? But I do not like being stared at when opening gifts. I feel like people are waiting to see my reaction to their gift and if I don't like it, I have to fake it. 😕

If you want to have a shower and not have to open all the gifts, you can ask everyone to wrap their gifts in clear so you can quickly go through them and still thank everyone. No one likes watching people open gifts lol they just want to hear that theirs was acknowedged.

There is a sweet shop near where I live that does an evening 'party' popular with baby shower parties. Pancakes on arrival, then you choose and paint a piece of pottery, which you collect a week later. But go home with a little party bag with sweets etc in. Really nice and fun and takes the pressure off the mum to be as everyone is busy and you don't have to be the centre of attention (that would really embarrass me!)

We threw a couples shower for friends a few years back. They love beer so we had it at a roof top bar and grill. We decorated with balloons and confetti. We had a decorate your own onesie station where some pretty hilarious onesies were created.

Everyone ordered their own drinks/food but we all paid for the parents to make sure they were covered. People brought presents and it was a very relaxed fun evening. That way the dad is involved and can hang out with his buddies, and it's not too girly, more comfortable setting.

The couple we threw the shower for are throwing it for is. Very much looking forward to a last get together with friends before our little String Bad greets us! :)

If you are a bit hippie/crunchy like me you might enjoy a blessingway. I DESPISE showers (I seriously want to know who thought a diaper full of chocolate was a good idea. Seriously). The games are so stupid and demeaning. I was thrown one with my first and hated it. 
I've done a blessing with all of my kids. It's much more personal and meaningful to me. 
If that's not your style then a dinner or just a party can be really fun. Just skip the awful games and awkward gift opening show and have fun.

I didn't open gifts at my bridal shower or baby shower. For my bridal shower, my mom asked everyone to wrap the gifts in cellophane. For my baby shower, the fists were also unwrapped. I wanted to be able to spend time with everyone without having to worry about opening gifts.

This is #3 for me, but my other kids are 10 and almost 9. I am going to have a shower, instead of games I'm thinking about doing some sort of craft like decorate onsies, bibs, or make bows if it's a girl. Make it kind of a fun get together and if they want to bring a gift that's great too
