whenever my husband and I have sex, he ends up tearing my skin down there because he's bigger than my opening? is that normal?

Yes, definitely lube up good first, and also check out Rx for that very objective. I can't remember the name, but they make Rx for it. Also, you may need LOTS of foreplay beforehand. That will enhance any natural lube you have. Also, tell your lover that he needs to be a bit more gentle! Ouch!

Maybe try lube? My hubby is pretty big ( scientifically larger than average, lol) but I've never bled from sex, but it can be uncomfortable if not wet enough.
