How do you correct your child(ren)?

I'm curious because we are all different when it comes to parenting.

I would consider this more 'how do you discipline your child'. I correct my child with words and by example. When disciplining I do both of the above, more timeouts than anything.

I correct my son with words and talking about why he did what he did. He's 5 so it's currently stomping and making faces and back talking  (5 year olds are so sassy) 
So it goes like "why did you do that? Were you angry? What happened to make you so angry?" And it generally is because I've asked him to do something he doesn't want to, like clean his room. So is explain hat the house has to be picked up and if his room is messy he can step on toys and hurt his feet and break them and then we would have to throw them away. If he flat out refuses then we may resort to a swat on the butt. But I much rather talk about the WHY we have him do things, rather then just "because I said so" like I got when I was a defiant kid. It's working well so far.

Ive had to become alittle creative with dicipling my son. Hes ADHD things like time outs and talking, do nothing.

With my son it depends why hes being corrected. If he says rude offensive stuff he gets 1/4 teaspoon of mild hot sauce.

*i never seem to have a problem with anything he says. Its usually his actual behavior*

When hes something major he stands in a corner that doesnt have alot of distractions. So when i go and ask him why hes there i know if hes thought about it or not. When he answers that we talk about it and and ways to make better choices instead of bad choices.

Basically I have different tactics for different children. Not all children will respond to smacking and not all will respond to time out. Removing favourite toys or exclusion from TV or Ipad privileges work for some, while other kids won't give a damn. One child may respond well to you being ultra firm and coming down on them hard where as their sibling might not handle that and need a gentle approach. Sometimes kids need to know that they've really hurt your feelings when they've misbehaved and that alone is punishment. Basically you just have to find what works and stick to it as aslong as your getting positive results.

I do a lot of communicating & breathing techniques. I also say "if you need time alone you should go have alone time in your room"

For very rude things. I take privileges away and do time outs. After the time out we talk about why they did they how they are feeling and get a hug. Kids feelings are just as valid as ours. They need to be heard. I have a 5&6 year old and would never over look or demean them and their thoughts.
