"They feel like period cramps"

I'm pretty sure I've been fortunate enough to never have experienced period cramps. I've always had very mild PMS symptoms in general, so I feel totally clueless when I try to anticipate what stronger contractions will feel like because most say they feel like the worst period cramps they've ever had. Can anyone try to describe the pain without referencing period cramps?
