Membrane sweeping/scrapping?

Hi ladies, have you heard about membrane sweeping/scraping? I went to my 37 weeks appointment yesterday and baby is 7.4lbs. Doctor scheduled me for membrane sweep next thursday, for my 38 weeks, she said to prepare my body for labour. What do you think? Thanks

I had mine swept with baby #2 about 4 days before my due date (in the morning). Doc said if it was gonna work then it would work within 24 hours. Sure enough my water broke that night just before midnight and put me into labor. My son was born 4 hours later! However, I had it swept with my first baby too and it didn't work at all so you just never know! Good luck!

It only works if your body is ready to go into labor. It's one of those things where it doesn't really hurt or help anything.

My dr offers that at 38 weeks as well, she said you usually go into labor within a day or 2.  She said it separates the bag of waters from cervix but doesn't break it.

At 36 week appointment yesterday NP said they would check my cervix at next appointment (38 weeks) and sweep my membranes if I'd like. I'll definitely be letting her do that if I haven't gone into labor on my own by then.

I've gotten my membranes swept with every pregnancy and I've never went into labor because of it! Never even had contractions or any effects. So, get it done if you choose, but don't count on it to start labor! :)

I'll be 38 weeks next wed have a doctors on Thursday for a membrane sweep also!! I'm already 2 cm and 50% effaced as of yesterday today I lost more of the plug so I say go for it if your ready

I'm so against this. The body doesn't need someone to thin your membranes. If baby isn't ready, he won't come yet.  Did he give a good reason for this?
