SO/friends/family of someone Deaf?

Hey! My boyfriend and the love of my life is deaf. I was wondering if anyone is close to someone that is deaf or hard of hearing. Do you know sign laugage and how did the deaf community take to you?

I have had nothing but love and patience from the deaf community. Sign lanuage is hard.but I'm getting there. I feel so lost when everyone is signing and I don't understand. :( anyone else going through similar things?

My daughter is deaf. The deaf community is very welcoming. My daughter who is only five told me that they know how hard it is to be in a place where only few people speak your language. They know how hard it is to be different, and as long as you show you are trying to learn their language they will be happy.

PS. Tip if you only know how to say a few yields still use them in a conversation.

I had an ex who was deaf, I learned first how to sign "how do you sign" then I would spell out the word in asl. I loved learning asl, and being able to communicate with more people in our community. It was extremely difficult for me because after a month of being together I realized he was my best friend's little sister's ex who lied to her and manipulated her, dating him turned my best friend against me and her whole family hated me.

My dad and sister are deaf and the deaf community too to my family and I pretty well. Some of the older people got annoyed when they were signing and I was slow but the majority of the people were patient

I am deaf. You will learn our language best if you are around d those who sign and use it consistently. I lost my hearing as a small child. The deaf community accept you if you accept us and learn to communicate with us. You are trying and that is a start.

I am presently going deaf; my fiancé is blind. I learned sign language at a youn age because someone I was close to was profound deaf. I have been increasing my personal knowledge of sign and anytime I happen to locate someone signing, we end up talking for hours; and encouraged to keep learning because they need sign language interpreters.

I work in a school for disabled kids and some of my kids are deaf.. We use sign .. They offer classes .. Google some in your area .. Or you can buythe American Sign Language book .. And they have apps
