IUD opinions?

I'm thinking of getting the IUD inserted but I'm not sure which to get and whether it's worth it. So I was wondering if I can get some opinions and suggestions?

I have had Mirena for three years. It hurt really bad to get it in so max you pain meds right before you see the doc. The first 6 months I had pretty much constant spotting. My period basically shows up whenever it wants to now (cycle length 28-49 days) and I have pretty bad ovulation pain which I never experienced before. It's really effective and low maintenance though with a very low dose of hormones. It's the top recommendation by Bedsider. Just make sure you check your strings every month and follow up with your doctor if they are shorter or longer and once a year.

I had mirena and didn't have any of the bad side effects except weight gain. Insertion hurt and the removal felt different. Didn't hurt but felt wierd. I had mine over 4 years

Hey! I am 22 and in a monogamous relationship. I am someone who is very sensitive to hormonal birth control pills. I tried many different kinds and they all seemed to make me very moody/emotional, plus I was bad at remembering to take them. I wanted to get a copper paragard but I had heavy and painful periods so my doctor advised me against it. I opted for a mirena because it is the most cost effective of the two hormonal iud's and lasts longer. I have now had mirena for 4 months.

The insertion was painful but not horrendous. I took the cervix dialating medicine, 4 Advil, and a Xanax before I got the procedure. I had slight cramping afterward, but had sex about 2 hours after procedure ( not smart but I was fine) 
Moderate to severe cramping for a week and then mild cramping for a month. 
My first period came about a month after and was a strange reddish/pink creamy discharge for about 2-3 weeks. I also experienced frequent yeast infections and ovarian cysts. BUT my doctor said that could do with a yeast overgrowth. I habe now eliminated gluten and sugar from my diet and it has made ALL the difference. I feel amazing and love my mirena! Very light periods that last 12 days, 1 day of mild cramps but that's it! Skin is clear with occasional zit when my cycle nears. My breasts have gotten larger and are tender around ovulation but I have actually lost 15 pounds with mirena, while my breasts have gotten larger and firmer (miracle) , the weight loss does have to do with a healthy low sugar diet and exercise, but it can be done! Mirena does have some physical pain but I have had no noticeable emotional/mental side effects, and that is most important to me! Hope this helps and gives you some insight!
