Can you pump before giving birth?

I've read both that you can and that you can't. What one do you ladies recommend?

I wouldn't. You would just be pumping colostrum which are the babies first important meals, and risking early labour.

I would ask your OB. I have read you can and I was going to, but when I asked my OB about it he said I shouldn't because it can cause labor and contractions, and that then your body goes into labor and the extra stimulation from the pumping is basically too much and can cause hard labor and complications. I don't know if that's true or not but that's what my OB told me.
