National Guard wives?

Any other Guard wives or girlfriends that get tired of the way people view the National Gaurd?

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 5 years. We've been long-distance because of National Guard trainings, schools, assignments, jobs, missions, etc. for 3 of those 5 years. I can't tell you how much I dislike hearing, "At least you don't have to worry about deployments." FALSE. My boyfriend's unit has been activated and deployed 4 times since the war started in 2001. Luckily, he hadn't been there long enough to have gone with them in the past but the fear of an impending future activation is always leering in the background. So, for those who believe we have nothing to worry about because "it doesn't happen", need to be told to do some research because IT ABSOLUTELY DOES.

I'm in the National Guard and it doesn't bother me one bit and it probably doesn't much bother your SO. My husband is active duty and picks on the "nasty girls" in the end we know we are 1 family and we be there for each other no matter the component or branch.

My SO is in the national guard. He served 4 years in the Marine Corps and did two tours to Afghanistan and is a combat veteran. Getting out was hard on him so he stayed in so he can do his 20 year retirement. He'll always be a Marine! So I don't care how people view them they're still in the military.

I just get frustrated when people say things like "Why are you so worried, national guard doesn't even deploy."

Yes! My boyfriend is an infantryman in the guard and my mom (married to a marine) and my dad (a marine) pokes fun at me saying, he'll just sit around the barracks not doing shit.
But he deploys in two years for nine months. It just irritates me because even though they're mostly joking, they down talk his status
