Engagement ring

My SO and I have been together for almost 3 years now and he refuses to look at rings with me. Well about a year ago we split up for about 3 months. He dated this girl for 2 months and started shopping for and bought a ring for her that she never received. Is it wrong to wear it and is it wrong to want to throw it off a bridge??
