Take Progesterone just to be safe?? Advice please.

Question

Has anyone taken progesterone just to be safe?? My fertility specialist had be on Letrozole (femera) last week, I'm on estradiol this week for thin uterine lining, and ovulating today. After asking her about progesterone and my previous miscarriages, she said I can take it if I want but it has no proven evidence that it helps patients get pregnant and stay pregnant. She gave me the Rx anyways and said I can take it starting Monday if I want. So now I need to start researching. I might take it just in case but I don't want it messing anything up for next month if I don't get pregnant this month, or whatever. Has anyone ever heard anything like this before???

I decided not to take it. If I do get pregnant this cycle then I will have them test my levels. If I don't get pregnant this cycle, then I will try it next month.

My doc gave me a rx for 100mg progesterone to take after ovulation bc my CD21 blood test showed borderline progesterone level, and my luteal phase is less than 10 days. Started last cycle -- I avg a 23 day cycle but last month AF arrived on day 27 (luteal 11 or 12 days). The first day was really heavy with severe cramps -- not sure if it was related to the progesterone or the HSG I had that cycle. Have an appt with the fertility doc next month, so we'll see if I stay on it or try other things.

I use progesterone suppositories during my luteal phase, even though my fertility specialist and my obgyn said my progesterone level is fine.

I requested it because I have spotting every month from about 5-7 days before AF every day til AF. Of the 4 months I have taken it, I've gotten only one bfp, that sadly ended in a chemical pregnancy. However, I did not spot any of those months either. This lead me to believe that I had somewhat low progesterone (my daughter was concieved with progesterone cream).

Both doctors are speculative that the progesterone does anything other than masking the issue in my case, because my hormone levels are "normal". They believe I f an egg is fertilized, then your body should make enough progesterone to support it (in other words, those months that I spot, it's likely because the egg didn't get fertilized and my uterine lining is breaking down early).  Still, they let me take it because it can't hurt anything. However, it can prolong your cycles if you don't stop taking it because you likely won't bleed til you stop taking it, which can delay your period. But if you're pregnant, you'll want to keep taking it til your doc gives you the green light (usually after the first trimester). So, I have to test early on those months so I know whether to stop taking it so AF can come on time.

I'd like to know this as well. Have you had your levels tested? I will be in about 3 weeks after ovulation. My Dr did tell me it was important to establish pregnancy. My concern is this- when I have right side ovulation I have a stinging ovary pain for a good week to week and a half. When I have left side ovulation, the pain is less intense and only lasts a few days. I have no medical basis for this but that got me wondering if maybe one ovary was ovulating better and thus producing more progesterone. If this is the case, again just speculation, if I get tested on a bad ovary month and I take something to bring the levels up will this make them too high on a good ovary month? I know high levels of hormones are the basis to bc. I plan to discuss with my Dr after my results come back.
