Internet donors

Quick question, how legit are these people over the Internet willing to donate sperm. My wife posted on a known donor site and guys are contacting her now. Some say they do it for free others just want money for travel. How legit is this? Should I trust them? Also if you ever did this how did it work? Please help! I've watched wayyyyu too much TV and Law and order shows and my mind is running lol!
