Mirena and weight gain?

Hi all,

I've had my IUD around 8 months now, I had it inserted after giving birth to my daughter.

During the last few months I've gained a bit of weight, even though nothing has changed in my diet or exercise routine. I was wondering if this is common with the Mirena? It's really frustrating, I'm hoping it's just a temporary hormone thing...

I've had the mirena for almost 2 years and have had no weight gain. I gained some holiday weight but that was my fault because I make damn good holiday desserts

The hormones released from Mirena - progesterone - is known to make your appetite much more and makes you hungry. I gained about 20 pounds on it within 4-5 months but I was eating like a fat cow! Had it removed thinking it was the Mirena causing the weight gain - my appetite suppressed to normal and I lost weight. Knowing it's because it made me hungrier, I had it put back in and love it again! Just watching what I'm eating majorly!

I studied the mirena extensively, and one of the perks listed of an IUD is that it doesn't cause weight gain.

Yes! I had weight gain when I had it. I changed nothing while I was on it and had even increased my exercise routine. So I had it removed and am down 10 pounds so far 😁 good luck

I been on the mirena for four years and hadn't gain anything on it. I changed my diet so now I've gain some in the last few months but it was never from the birth control.

I had the marina for 2 1/2 years I from a size 10 to a size 14 (UK sizes) when I got it out and mentioned it to the nurse she wrote it off and said it definitely wasn't the coil. When I no it is. The Drs and nurse are pushing for the marina as it's probably cosy effect it last for years and few people get pregnant on it. But the side effects to it are crazy and some are pretty nasty.
