Anyone ever travel (fly) with a 2 month old?

I might be crazy but I just confirmed I will travel just two months (might even be less if I give birth late) after having the baby. My husband will go with me but I have no idea how this will go. It's a 3 hr flight. Anyone do this before? Any tips? I don't plan on buying a separate seat for the baby - he/she will be on my lap. So what does that mean for our car seat?

I am a flight attendant and people fly all the time with a two month old!! I'd suggest nursing/feeding during takeoff and especially during descent (helps with their little ears). As far as the car seat/stroller goes, most airlines allow you to gate check these items. That just means you can take them through security with you and until you are about to board the plane at which point you will leave it at the bottom of bridge. It'll go under the aircraft for the flight and once you land will be brought back to the bottom of the bridge and waiting for you when you deplane. Check with your airline if they have any additional costs for gate checking items but most do not. Just talk to your gate agent prior to boarding and they'll set you all up. You'll be fine and it'll be nice to have hubby helping!

i flew by myself with my 6 week old! its actually pretty simple because tiny babies usually sleep the whole time! i would suggest babywearing rather than a stroller if you can swing it and give baby a paci/bottle/boob during take off and landing to prevent their ears from popping.

When my first daughter was born, almost 7 years ago. I had to fly to Lincoln, NE from San Diego for my older brother's wedding. My daughter was about 3 weeks old at the time. I had bought out the whole row for my dad, mom and myself, and baby was in my lap in the window seat. I checked in her car seat and stroller at the gate. Her diaper bag had all of her essentials to include a water bottle and formula although I was breast feeding, I took it just incase she didn't want my boobs. We also had a layover in Denver so her car seat and stroller come in handy. I was also grateful my parents flew with me to switch baby off if I got tired. Just make sure your baby has a pacifier or eating while take off and landing to help prevent the popping of the ears. Goodluck!!!

I'm taking a 7 hour car ride about 15 days after our baby is born. If it's a rough birth I'm canceling, but for now our plan stands. Does anyone have any experience with long car trips and newborns?

When you get to the gate, see if there are any open seats that you can change and be next to. Then you don't have to check your car seat and it's even easier! I do it every time I fly with my almost 2 year old and we get seats about half the time!

Just check the airlines policy. We are flying from Australia to NZ (3.5hrs) when our little one will be 3-4months old. We've booked our tickets already, as we are flying in Jan & tickets prices will just keep climbing. I called our airline and after baby is born we just call and add her to the booking. At this time they will also book us into basinette seating. Our plane has 6 or 8 basinettes, so I doubt there will be an issue with having one, but they just said policy is youngest babies first. As far as luggage goes, an infant ticket does not have a luggage allowance, as we have not paid for a seat. We can however take a car seat, pram & portacot with our checked luggage, at no extra cost. We are also allowed one extra piece of carry on for the baby. When I took my son as a 1yr old, they allowed us to keep the stroller till we boarded but that was a different airline & I haven't checked with this one if we can.

I flew with my 3rd angel on a 6 hour flight when she was 2 1/2 months old. I also had my 5 year old son with me and I was by myself. Our 2 year old was home with Daddy. My little baby was a breeze compared to my 5 year old. Lol! All she did was nurse and sleep! The only part I had a hard time with was at security, folding up the stroller to out through security. But several people stepped up and helped out. Enjoy your travel now before your little one is moving all around!

I flew with my mom with my baby when she was about three months old I think. We had the stroller to get through the airport and the carseat for her to sit in. We had to collapse the stroller and out the stroller and car seat through the X-ray at the checkpoint. They checked both at the gate for us so we didn't have them in the plane. Otherwise it was really simple honestly. I nursed her when we were landing to help her ears but that was pretty easy. If you are formula feeding that might be a bit harder. It was easier to fly with her that age than when she was three.

I did, easiest trip with a baby yet! He slept and nursed and I even got a nap in too! Just remember to bring something for baby to suck on during take off and landing. Also, the air is super dry in the plane and caused my sons excema to flair up so I would suggest completely lubing the baby up in aquaphor or Honest product or something strong, including head. I know that sounds weird but I swear by it!
