I'm a ftm due October 18 & I live in New York I heard that you have to get insurance for the baby before the baby is born but how do you do that? I called my insurance but they giving me the runaround I feel lost

They doing that to me also! I'm also in NYC Queens.....I was told that since welfare didn't put my info in in June and they just did it in Aug I won't be able to get the insurance by the time I have the baby! So I'm going to wait and see if they can do it in the hospital.....

From my reading medicaid covers you 60 calendar days, and then to the end of that month on the mother's plan. That gives you time to get coverage for the child.

Most policies that I knew of cover at least 30 days on the mother's policy. I would ask them for a declaration of your policy to read through.

Baby has to have a social security number before they can have insurance. So they use your insurance until the paperwork is done and then they go on their own. Either your personal insurance or Medicaid.

Everyone that reply does it apply everywhere like New York (all 50 states) or only for certain insurances? I have metro plus and Medicade

I work at an insurance company in Connecticut, we also cover exchange or "obama care" the baby automatically falls under your current insurance for the first 30 days. You need to have insurance for your baby on or before the 31 day.
