IVF worth it?

Guys I need some advise. We've been trying for 3 years unsuccessfully. We have unexplained infertility so all tests have been completed. We've done one round of clomid but my gynae want us to meet and discuss the next step for us. I'm scared he's going to say IVF. How emotionally, physically and financially draining is IVF? Our insurance covers nothing to do with infertility so everything will have to be covered out of pocket. I don't know if I can put myself through IVF I just need some advice and honest views please.

Hi Lisa. I know it's scary at first we were in the same boat. We tried 2 IUIs both of which were unsuccessful. Then moved onto IVF and I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant from our first round! Our insurance didn't cover a thing either. That's why we didn't want to keep trying with IUI. Our IVF cost about $14k with meds. Yes it's expensive, yes it's overwhelming. But the process wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be. And def worth it!! Never lose hope!

I haven't completed my IVF cycle yet (I'm a couple days away from egg retrieval), but I will say it hasn't been emotionally draining for me at all. I was really bummed my 3 IUIs failed, but I think I was really ready for IVF (and more hope) by the time my IVF cycle started. So far, my ovaries have been uncomfortable. The shots haven't been bad at all. I'm just ready to get to the other side. Thankfully, my insurance is covering quit a bit. Otherwise, the cost would have been around $14k including drugs. Assuming things continue well, I'd definitely do it again if I had to.

It's expensive and stressful, emotionally draining and exhausting. But for the price of a car, we're 8 weeks pregnant after 4 years of trying (1.5 years of fertility treatments). I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you!

It really depends where in the country you are in terms of cost. Here in LA it's higher than what everyone else is saying. I think it depends on geography.

IVF was intimidating for me and overwhelming in the beginning, however, my Dr and nurses kept me informed and once I got into the swing of things it wasn't bad. Everything was just a schedule and a time commitment. Making sure you take your shots at the scheduled time they tell you and being there for bloodwork and ultrasounds. Do your research with your insurance company, ask questions when you have them. It worked for us on the first try and I would honestly do it again in a heartbeat if I had too. Lots of luck.
