Real labor at 20 weeks?!

Feeling a bit worried.
I'm nearly 20 weeks and today I've been feeling strong Braxton hicks, about every 5-10 minutes. 
I don't remember ever getting BHC until late pregnancy with my two other pregnancies and even then they never hurt. 
If these were infact real contractions they would be dilating my cervix right? Is there a way I can check to see if my cervix is dilating myself before hauling my two kids to the emergency with me!

Call your doctor first. Mine are three minutes apart all the time and I called and asked her and she said usually fake ones are 5-10 minutes apart so mine were unusual, but they have to get closer and closer and last more than two hours consistently. Yours sound like normal Braxton hicks. Not the real deal.

If you are unsure go to the doctor or at least call a nurses line. I've had bad BH since 25 weeks sometimes as close as 2-3 minutes. My doctor said to watch for bleeding or if they get closer together and last like that for a few hours. Best advice is drink more water you are probably dehydrated and get off your feet.

If you really think it might be something you should go I definitely wouldn't try to check my own cervix for dilation best of luck

That is too close together. Get to ER. You need some steroids if it is real labor to try to control it. Once it gets under control, they will likely put a stitch in your cervix (cerclage). You also will probably go on bed rest. 
It absolutely could be real labor so get on it before its too late.

I would say it's best to be safe and get checked out. Trying to check your cervix yourself can result in bad infections if not done with sterile gloves.. Plus I would think it'd be hard to reach your own and tell for certain if it's thinning or dilating. I had what I thought was BH at 19 weeks (actually felt contractions before I ever even felt the babies kick!) and it turned out they were thinning out my cervix significantly. Now I'm on strict bedrest. Hopefully not the case for you but it can happen this early.
