Did you have positive birth stories around while growing up?

My mom always talked about giving birth and how it was completely natural. She and my mother in law, as well as both my grandmas, all had natural, unmedicated child birth. I plan on doing the same. I know some families where talking about birth is taboo, or the mom constantly talks about how their kid almost killed them. One of my friends was terrified to give birth because of her moms stories. I'm just curious what your experiences were.

My mother thought labor was the most beautiful thing! She talked about it all of the time. My entire family had easy, fast, natural labor. It made me feel calm going into it in hopes I would too have an easy labor and I did! I was in labor a total of three hours and pushed once. I cannot wait to be in labor again. It was seriously the most amazing feeling in the world!

My mom had my youngest four siblings at home with a midwife, and I intend to do the same thing because of getting to see how positive the whole experience was for her. I was actually able to be right there with her for one of my brother's births, and was in charge of video recording the whole thing. It was really special, and I got such a great first hand chance to see the freedom that having a home birth allows.

Then with my sister, it was such an easy birth my mom didn't even realize she was in labor! She went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, felt some pressure, and as she's pushing she realizes what is actually happening, and she caught my sister all on her own before the midwife even arrived.

Also, for each of the two youngest brothers, I know it was a really great experience for my step-dad. Even though the midwife was there the whole time, when it came time for the final pushes she showed him where he needed to be, so that he was able to be the one to catch them as they came out.

I am taking the option of using a midwife the whole way through and having a home birth. I would recommend that you should all do your research on how you would like to give birth. 
People spend weeks even months researching what car they want to buy. Giving birth should be the one thing you should look into the whole nine months you are pregnent. It is the most important start you could give to your child. 
One very good documentary I watched is called ' the business of making babys ' I thing or somewhere along those lines.

I had horrible birth stories from my families. My mother, pregnant with twins, gave birth 2 months early almost died, my aunt gave birth to her son in a hospital and the doctor had her in the wrong position and it broke her hip and her son developed a series of mental disabilities as a result. My other aunt scheduled a c-section to avoid problems and they removed the baby too early and she had severe heart defects. I am terrified of giving birth. 😥
