Question

So I was thinking about when I go into delivery and what my daughter should do. My daughter will almost be five when the baby is born and we are very open about how things really work and look at a book together that has pictures of things, if you know what I mean. They are kind of cartoonish but realistic. I am thinking about having her in the room during the delivery so she can experience the situation. What would you do? Do you think she is too young or it could be a great experience?

I would if she was older, but the sight of you being in pain and all of the commotion might be too much for her to handle. She knows what will happen, but she probably won't understand why it's hurting her mommy or why there's so much commotion. And also, because she's young, she may feel the rivalry early on and start to demand attention. You need to be focused on what you're doing, and everyone in the room needs to be focused on you/what they're doing. It's a great idea to have her be there but maybe just stick to videos/pictures for now! Good luck!

My daughter is 4, baby #2 will be here 5 months before her 5th birthday. I'm a childbirth doula so she is very familiar with childbirth and pregnancy, water birth, etc. She will be there while I give birth to the baby, she's very excited and she saw a shirt with scrubs and a stethoscope and said she needs it because she's a midwife and will wear it when the baby is born lol. I'm having a homebirth, so the environment will be very calm and relaxed, I'm excited that she will be present.

I saw my brother be delivered when I was 14 and even though I knew what was gonna happen my mind was still a bit blown. I can't imagine a small child! My daughter will almost be 4 when this child is due and she will stay with our family in the waiting room or at a playground while I deliver. I've also decided that we won't have visitors right away like we did with my daughter or anyone in the room during delivery.

I personally wouldn't but I have 2 boys that would be traumatized. But i do know someone who had her kids in the room, her youngest daughter was 5 and she did great. I guess it also depends on how you react during labor. Most kids hate seeing their parent in pain and if you show it a lot I wouldn't.

Personally I feel it's a bit too young, but its your choice if hospital allows. I'm just thinking a young child to try to take care of while bringing a new life into the world might be a bit much. What if delivery takes a while and she gets bored? What is lord forbid challenges, etc, on top of if she will really be able to mentally process seeing mom go through all of that. Maybe just bring her in right after baby is born?

It really depends on the child. If you truly think she can handle it then go for it there is nothing wrong with having her in there. You know your child better than anyone.

I think I would be traumatized lol I think I'd be scared that the baby is hurting you and then hate the baby, maybe? Idk.

I think it's too young. I know if I saw that at any point before middle school I would be pretty upset and confused, even if I saw it in books. I'm 23 and pregnant and I don't even want to be there for the delivery 😂 just kidding, I still think it would be traumatic for for a little one. But, you know your child best.
