Pcos?

Question

How do Drs diagnose pcos? What tests are done? Does it have symptoms? Did you know you had it before Drs appt? I go next week and DO NOT want that diagnosis! How do they know, by that I mean like how do they pinpoint it?

All my blood work came back normal. My only pcos symptom was polysetic ovaries and anovulation

Getting my diagnosis was my first step toward healing and eventually conceiving my first child. If you're worried about having kids, yes it's hard. But taking care of your body and your blood sugar and your hormones should take the front seat for a while. I tried for three years off and on. Near the end there I finally got on birth control to regulate my hormones. I was so sick of my periods being irregular and impossible. I took metformin and it helped with weight and blood sugar levels. I had a reason for my pain and acne and emotional instability. For six months I was on birth control and I took my mind off TTC. Not two months after I stopped I got pregnant. Health > a baby, as painful as it is for me to know what it's like to not be able to have a baby. But taking care of my body and getting that diagnosis actually got me closer to having a family!

Hormone levels are a good indication, but ultrasound is ultimately used to confirm. I was diagnosed PCOS 14 years ago and put on birth control; last year finally off and ttc and my doctor reevaluated me for it. He thought it might be an ovarian tumor because of the hormone levels, but ultrasound confirmed just cysts. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

I had blood work done my hormones were not balanced at all..an ultrasound was done to my ovaries and thank god they are fine. But since dr says I'm a little passed my weight for my height and with irregular cycles he diagnose me with pcos. He prescribed me provera and I started working out.

I found out of pcos through bloodwork. I am insulin resistant. I was recently dx last month so I'm still figuring out what the symptoms are.

They look at your ovaries through an internal ultrasound, they can usually tell right when they look at your ovaries if they are polycysistic. I had this done and did not have PCOS. Hope this helps
