Why is everyone afraid of the ER

Question

I notice a lot of posts on here about woman freaking out over bleeding ect then saying they've made a appointment with their doctor in 2 days...I myself had bleeding and went straight to the ER, I work in the medical field and my grandma was a nurse for 50 years and I talked to her about it.

Maybe if you don't have health insurance I can see why but honestly they won't mind you coming into the ER at all!! They're there to help! I went for bleeding and ended up being fine but they told me if I was for whatever reason worried to just come back!

We on glow can only give you advice on what's happened to us but there's so many different reasons and causes for many things during pregnancy!

If you ever have any doubt something is wrong with your baby then please go to the ER! Even if you are sure you're miscarrying my dr said its best to go to at least make sure everything came out or learn that something else is going on and your baby is fine so you can sleep at night!!

They probably aren't afraid of the er itself- more like scared of that massive bill and the uncomfortably long wait time. But I'd still rather go to the er than wait days to get into my ob if I think there's a problem.

We have insurance so it's not the cost...but I feel like if something is going wrong there is nothing they can do this early so why go? I've spotted my entire pregnancy and have never went only because I don't want to wait hours for them to tell me one thing or the other and then they can't do anything. If I was heavily bleeding or had severe cramping I would definitely go but not just for spotting. Luckily baby is okay and is growing away! I think it just depends on your preference :) I think if you are anxious and worried there is nothing wrong with going :)

I'm not just worried about that big ass bill lol.. If it's an emergency I won't hesitate to go tho

If it was me, I would personally go to the ER....but I think a lot of people are hesitant to go due to the costs. Even with insurance, my copayment for an ER visit is $200 plus whatever the bill is. If I thought something is wrong, I would go regardless....but I know some woman financially aren't that lucky, and the fear of massive debt from just 1 visit is a deterrent.

I think it's mostly because you can spend hours just waiting. I went once to the er when I was 6w because I started bleeding. I work at a hospital so I was seen by a Dr very quickly, but I know sometimes it can take lots of time

I am not afraid of the emergency room. I just hate going. Last time I was there for 8 hours. It was awful.
