Awkward and Embarrassing
At church this past Sunday, before it started, my husband and I were standing in the hallway talking. A member of the church (and of the choir that I sing in) came up to us and said "I heard the exciting news!" I asked her what news. She said "You're expecting." I told her we are not. She felt bad and apologized. She said she heard that from "someone." She walked away and not even a minute later someone else comes over to us asking "How's the baby?" My husband and I were in disbelief. Again I told her we aren't expecting. I told her I'm just fat. She also felt bad and apologized. After she left I felt horrible and embarrassed and told my husband let's just go. See, besides it being humiliating to gain enough weight to look pregnant, what nobody at church knows is that a few months ago we were pregnant but had a miscarriage. So we should have been pregnant right now. This makes it all the more hurtful to hear people say that. Tonight is choir practice and I don't want to set foot in church, let alone face some of the very people who mistakenly took my weight gain to mean pregnancy. It will be very awkward. And my husband and I are wondering who else at church things we're pregnant and will come up to us to congratulate us with the 'good news'. (Sigh)
