Having babies after the age of 35

I am turning 35 next year but due to work and other concerns my husband and I have decided to have babies the year after next when I am 36. Is this too late to have children? I keep hearing all these horror stories about miscarriages and deformities and higher likelihood of autism and it really scares me. How old is too old?
