What things do I need to buy? How long does it typically take for the cord to fall off?

I used rubbing alcohol 3 times a day unless it was bath time

Nothing. Keep it dry and loose clothing over it and fold diaper down so it doesn't keep rubbing it. And only sponge baths until it falls off- no submersion baths where you would get it wet. Just keep it dry and it will take care of itself. Should usually fall off in 8-10days.
