Ex doesn't give up!!!

I'll try to make this short .. I broke up with this guy my family and my close friend doesn't like , we've been together for a year and a few months he was my first kiss, boyfriend literally everything as a senior in HS , him on the other hand is a different story .. he's been trying so hard to get me back and he just doesn't give up , him trying really just makes me tear up because yes I still have feelings for him that I'm covering up and because I've never seen someone try so hard that it literally gets annoying .. I've given him so many chances but he's a jerk till I stop caring , I just don't know what to do .. I'm in medical school trying to do something with myself and he's just smoking pot and working .. He says he's going to school soon to become a therapist but right now weed has his attention .. I've tried being friends but he says he can't do it
