Baby shower invite question

My cousin invited some family members on fb by creating and event, but they haven't responded yet. Would it be appropriate if I send them a message such as "hey, just wanted to invite you to my baby shower, hope you can make it." Or should I ask my cousin to send them a message such as "Hey, just wanted to do a headcount for jasmine's baby shower, do you think you can make it?" What would be better? baby shower is this weekend so we don't have time to send out paper invitations. We aren't really doing a head count, but I just want to make sure they got the invite since it was send through Facebook.
