Should there be a heartbeat at 5 weeks?

I'm currently 5 weeks and 6days. I had a vaginal ultrasound today and there was nothing. No heartbeat. Just the gestational sac. The lady that did the ultrasound said that was normal and it was too early....

Can anyone reassure me that what she told me was accurate?

I went in at almost 6 weeks and they couldn't see a heartbeat or even a fetal pole. Went back at 7 weeks 3 days and the heartbeat was beating away. There are a lot of instances were a healthy babies heartbeat can't be seen that early. Best of luck to you!!

5 weeks is too early! Usually around 6 weeks you can see it, and 8 weeks you can hear it!

In general my OB said there should be a heart beat around 6 weeks but it sometimes can be tricky to hear

It's accurate for lots of people. Do you happen to know what your HcG levels are? Until you've reached 1000-1500, nothing can really be seen.
