I woke up Sunday (9/13) morning at about 1am starving, so I got a snack. I started feeling sick towards the end off snack, and just felt odd, and laughed at the thought of bang showing up that day. I went back to bed and woke up at 3am to a small gush of fluid and waited for more. There wasn't much, so I wasn't sure it was my water. I felt a few mild cramps, but doubted they were contractions since they never became regular. A few tiny little gushes happened overnight and I didn't sleep. After freaking out my hubby, I decided to sleep on the couch so he could sleep. I slept 2 hours and went about my normal Sunday. We made breakfast, went to church, then I waited for my baby shower. My husband was worried that my water did break, so we got all our stuff packed, I cooked and we ate dinner and we went to the hospital. Triage was full, so we got a L&D room. I was 99% sure we would be sent home. The nurse did a rapid test for amniotic fluid that was negative, then did a more accurate test that took about 40 minutes. The nurse came back and said it was ruptured, and we were seating. They started the iv with pitocin since my water broke at 3am and it was now 930 with no regular contractions. I was at 3cm and 80% effaced, so we waited. The dr came and checked after a while and I was at 3+. The nurse was weirded out by how calmly I took the contractions, I could barely feel them, I figured we would be there forever, so I got comfortable! Doc broke the rest of my water (what I was expecting.. It was a ton!!) and the contractions got a million times more painful and were about 2 minutes apart. They got so bad that I got the epidural. It wasn't bad at all, and it felt warm and fuzzy instead of tons of pain. We were able to relax for 2 hours when the nurse came and checked again. It was 3am and I was completely dilated and effaced! She couldn't believe it and brought in another nurse to confirm. Baby was still high, so they had me sit in the throne position for an hour. I pushed with the nurse got an hour before she grabbed the doc. I felt contractions on my left side through the pushing, but pushing helps a lot with them. The doc came in and I pushed about 3 times, and baby Owen was born on 520 am on September 13, at 37.1 weeks. We delayed clamping one minute and did immediate skin to skin. Baby was rooting around immediately and I breastfed on both sides. It was amazing, and I'm so proud of him! His one minute apgar was 8 and 5 minute was 9. He was perfect!! Labor and delivery were so much different than I expected, but everything went so great!
