Should we wait to have a baby?

My husband and I just got married in August but we've been together almost 5 years. We're both 22 right now (he'll be 23 in a few months) and I want to start having babies, but he wants to wait a year or two. I want to wait but again I don't. He wants to wait mostly till he his career set out. Should I convince him? I don't know what to do? How long did you wait?

Parenting is so much more enjoyable when both parents are ready. If you convinced him he would feel like the child is more your responsibility because you were the one that really wanted a baby. Which would eventually end in you resenting him for not helping as much as he would if he really wanted a child right now.

I would wait. I got married when I was 21 (both 21) and my husband wanted to start a family right away but I was finishing up college. We have now been married 5 years and are expecting our 1st baby. We will both be 27 when I deliver but we wouldn't have it any other way.  My husband thanks me for deciding to wait. I finished college a few years ago and established in career and we brought a house last year. A baby is the only missing piece now.

We waited three years before having our baby and I so enjoyed the time I had with just my husband and I. We moved around and traveled and had a blast!!

I would wait and enjoy each other and married life first. Do some traveling, let your careers and school get set. After about a year then have the baby talk. Your only 22. I'm 27 with no kids and I'm glad I waited. I've been with my partner for 2 years and were just now trying. But, it's your marriage hun, its your body, if a family is what you want then that is both yours and your husbands decision. No one else's. :) just know that there is nothing wrong with waiting. Its important to do the following things before starting to TTC.

Discuss how many children you want AND what you would do in a scenario that was life threatening to you, such as a blood clot in your lung at 4 months, would you risk surgery? Would you abort, and then take blood thinners then try again pretreat for blood clots. Things like that.
OR if you child had a high chance of having disabilities. If you child had a 90% chance of having down syndrome, would you abort? Would you join a wonderful and thriving community?

Post pregnancy, would you work? Would you stay home? Hire a nanny?

You don't have to answer me, but these are things that need to be talked about before they happen.

Create a financial plan. That is not just inclusive of having a baby, but purchasing a home, possibly going back to school, saving for retirement etc. If you need help with this Thrivenet Financial is a wonderful company that has been around for over 100 years.

Also, the two of you should go to an OB for a preconception check. Not many people do this, but it is important to check for possible reproductive disorders like PCOS, endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, or for him low sperm count or low motility.

This should help the two of you create the most realistic game plan for the next 18-30 years of your life depending on how long you want to wait.

I think you two need to sit down and find a compromise. If you get pregnant without him wanting it, he will resent you. If you wait and wait but really want a child, you will resent him. Talk it out. Maybe a year as a compromise instead of 2? My fiancé and I had to do this as well. We also had to compromise on the amount of children we want together. He has kids and only wanted 1. I don't have any and wanted 3 or more. We have settled on 2 (unless I pop up with triplets.  lol. ). Just talk it out and be patient. :)

I would wait and travel and enjoy my early 20s! I get wanting to have a baby but I'm glad I'm 27 and expecting my first. We may have even waited longer but my hubby already had a 7 year old that we have 50% custody of so we're already caring for 1. You just got married, Id just take some time and enjoy the time together before you add a baby.

Waiting is up to you and your husband... You can't make a decision based on what others do or don't... You both need to sit down and make the decision together. Good luck!!
