When to go to hospital 1 hr away!?

Hey everyone I'll be 30 weeks Sunday and I know I have a lil bit to go but just in preparation.... This will be my second and I was wondering when I should head to the hospital from being so far? I know a lot can change in an hr... So from experience anyone have any advice ? My in laws live near the hospital so that's there too...

I'm in a similar situation! I live in tiny town wyoming and the nearest hospital is 80 miles away in Jackson hole! It takes usually an hour and a half with tourists and going through a canyon. I'm due Dec 1 so it'll also be winter! Ahh! Baby #1 without family there so I'm wondering when to leave as well. Good luck!

When my sister had her second 26 years ago she was in the exact same scenario. Drove an hour to hospital was told to go back home. Went to my parents house which was closer and her husband went to work. A few hours later my parents brought her back to the hospital but she delivered on the way there. Fortunately she was a nurse and stayed calm.

Was your first labor fast? If so, take that into consideration. Definitely ask your doc what they think.

I live an hour away from mine too. I ended up being induced with my first so it wasn't an issue but I plan on just keeping the same plan we had then. Dr told me to head that way as soon as contractions were 5 min apart. It's great that you have family nearby. I would definitely plan on using them as an option if need be. My bigger fear is getting to the hospital and them sending me home. So that's an hour home and then an hour back! I worry the change needed could happen then! So my hospital has a hotel nearby. And lots of places to go. If I don't get induced this time, and sent home I plan on staying in the area which is the plan we had last time. I'm a little more worried since it's my second that things will happen quicker, but so many things can happen! Just be prepared! Bags, plans for pets/other kids, for different scenarios (like if you are at work or hubby is), car seat, people on standby you may need assistance from etc.

Well early labour can last for a long time. You could be in labour for days technically but not far enough to be at the hospital

Would it be possible to head over to your in laws when you begin early labour and relax there until you transition into active labour?
