Late period negative test?

My period is never ever late....and if it is it's usually only by one day. Also my cycles are about 4 days long and now I'm on day 3 of my supposed to be cycle and it hasn't come yet? However I've taken one cheap dollar store test and it was negative? Could it be possible I am pregnant even tho the test was negative? Has anyone ever gotten negatives even with a missed period?:D
