How do I explain the scars?

I'm a first time mom currently pregnant with a little girl. Awhile ago I struggled with self harm for about 3 years. I got stitches on my right arm and the scars are really noticeable. I'm worrying, what am I gunna tell her when she sees them? I can't hide them forever, at some point she'll see them

I may not be correct but I would tell her "mommy went through some difficult times. This scar is a reminder of that. But the good news is I have gotten through it. I hope you can see it as a sign of how strong mommy can be".

Be honest. When she's younger just say you were injured and got cut a lot, and when she's older start to be honest.

My son asks me all the time too what my scars are and so do the neighborhood kids I just tell the truth and say I hurt myself when I was younger and that it's not something I like to discuss

Not sure if you are into tattoos. But that's what i did. I covered mine with a meaningful tattoo to remind myself when I look at it to know how far I came and that I would never want to ruin my tattoo or ever go back to that place.

I've done self harm on my chest when I was 19 and needed stitches because of it. I have a 2 year old daughter who touches the scar and says mommy has a boo boo. Once she gets older I plan on telling her the truth and what I went through and how thankful I am to be alive and how she can overcome anything in life. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed. Depending on who it is, I'll say the truth and other people like a boss I probably won't Lol. Your not alone.

I don't think there is a right way to approach this but if you say things like "this made mommy stronger" its kind of confusing to a little mind. They might think if they have scars they will be stronger too.

I would lie to them while they're young and tell them the truth once they could understand.

Maybe say something like, "mommy hands went through a window and she hurt herself very bad. So you never run and rough play around windows". My sister in her teens was running down the stairs and her hand actually did go threw a window. She had to pull the glass out of her arm. It looks like it could be self harm.

Self harm is very hard to understand even for people doing it. There is no way I would have that discussion with a little mind. Especially when we're teaching our kids kindness, we should teach them to be kind to them selves.

I have scars on my stomach from a ex cutting on me, so when I have kids I'll tell them mama survived a abusive relationship in the past and here she is now to raise you guys
