No $$ for shower

This is my second baby (due in November)  and we were planning to have a "Tailgate"-themed shower in October. Unfortunately, I lost my job in July and we are still recovering financially. I'd still like to have a shower but we don't have the money to put into it.  Would it be poor taste to have a Potluck Shower, and explain because of my job change we are just having a simple get together to celebrate the new baby?
