I started my period when I was only nine and didn't have a clue what it was. Because I didn't know how often I was supposed to change my pad I had accidents often. For the first 3 years of my period I had the worst pain ever! I'd be in the bed for 2 days and couldn't go to school. Vomiting, diarrhea,and unbearable  cramps. I'd bleed heavily for 7-8 days. Ugh! Then my doctor put me on birth control and I must say that was the best decision ever. Now 11 years later I must say I'm glad I'm on birth control. I'm not a parent but some parents say they will never put their child on birth control at an early age, but I'm glad my mom did. If it's going to help your daughter deal with her period better why not? Unless there's a medical reason then I understand.  I no longer have those symptoms. I mean I still get cramps but they're not unbearable and I only bleed for 5 days. I love my birth control!! Can I hear from some moms on what they think about it?
