Bleeding on the pill....?

I used to be on birth control pills, and I went off for a year... now, I am starting back up and am about three weeks in. I have been spotting brown blood almost everyday and every time I have sex, I bleed lots of bright red blood right after. It's getting to the point where I don't even feel comfortable or confident having sex because this keeps happening!! Has this happened to anyone else? Is this "normal" for getting back on the pill? Any advice is greatly appreciated...!
