First come, first serve?

My sister and her boyfriend are currently expecting their first child. They are aqquirting a lot of things from our family (table, chairs, etc.) Most things, I don't care about, but there are something's, I would like to use for my children as well. Is it fair that we split those things?

Let them have it and they can pass it on to you later. It just seems weird not to let someone use something they need now because you may need it sometime in the future. They are not like heirlooms or something..,

I would just tell her that when you have children, you would like to use some of the stuff too. There is no reason she can't pass them on to you when you have a baby. I have a lot of things from my childhood that belonged to my sister and I. I made it clear that when she has kids of her own, I will pass them on to her. Hopefully your sister can understand that some of those things are important to you too.

My sister in law is pregnant and is 2.5 months ahead of me.. She is getting everything from my SO's side of the family but my side of the family doesn't really have anything.. So we are just buying our own stuff.
