Literally how can over half of the entire population believe in God/Gods. In this age of technology where everything is hands on and tangible, how can they think there's some
magical guy up there who watches over 7billion people at once and listens to prayers. I don't get it. I don't

I've thought a lot on this subject lately and I think it does have to do with our average intelligence, but more than that, man as a whole likes to romanticize our existence as well as having a finger to point. We like believing that there is someone or some force that is responsible for us. This is especially true when times are bad. We love thinking that we can call upon someone or something for love, support, help, or place blame. It definitely is a lot easier on our minds to believe so.

I definitely struggled with the weight of dealing with not being able to do so once I stopped believing. Like when someone dies, I can't just imagine them looking down on me from heaven anymore. They're just dead. Going nowhere. Thats a lot harder than believing they are in heaven.

I think it's a pretty gross misconception to associate spiritual belief with lack of intelligence. A majority of the global population believes in God or gods, often stemming from spiritual yearning or a framework for meaning that you certainly don't need to share. But you might endeavor for more charitable (accurate) effort at understanding.

It's probably just as inconceivable that we don't believe in god(s). Whereas we think that what all has happened is man's doing with no supernatural help, they (referencing Christians) may think that their god has made it this way.

Ok, I thought about this again because the OP made me very angry to assume one had to be brainwashed or not smart to believe in God.

I think there is a group of people who blindly follow what they are taught. In those cases, it does seem "brainwashy". The truth is they are in areas of the world where they don't know any better and do not think to use their own judgment. Unfortunately, they tend to be the "loudest" believers and when they made statements can make you want to face palm.

However, there is another group of people who feel with all of the explanations we have, and all of the science, the fact that some things cannot be explained is the proof He exists. I believe in evolution, and the Big Bang, but to me, they are too perfect to happen by mere chance. Something had to have created this perfect set of circumstances for life to happen. Look at how difficult it has been to find life-similar to Earth- any where else. Look at how perfect things must come together to make and have a child and to not have any issues. This is not to say bad things cannot happen, but I would think chaos would ensue on a much more frequent basis if our entire universe was more circumstance than a "grand design".

So, I think you can critically think things through and still come up with God as the answer. The second part is... Faith. We have faith God exists. This cannot be explained. Faith is believing WITHOUT any proof. If we all needed a definitive sign of God, it would no longer be our faith.

I have no idea. It drives me mad. Smart people that I know believe in God. I can't... All they have to do is learn just a liiiittle bit about science. They are ignorant.

Yea, I personally don't think you're far off. I know plenty of smart believers and dumb atheists, but that isn't the average pattern.
