Has anyone used a Humidifier?

Is this necessary for newborns?  Any advice? Thanks.

I haven't gotten one yet. I plan to ask the pediatrician once she's born.

We received a cool mist humidifier as a shower gift. Our pediatrician encouraged us to use it to help clear baby's nose. Because their sinus passages are so small they can get mucousy, we were concerned he was getting sick but the pediatrician assured us it was normal. The humidifier has helped him sound less congested.
