Does varicocele repair surgery work?

After rotating TTC and NTNP and not getting pregnant for 6 years, my husband was diagnosed with a bilateral varicocele with the largest measuring 2.9cm (I think this may be grade III). We've thought about surgery but after doing research, I see a lot of TTC couples and doctors with different outcomes. Some say it worked, some say it didn't and it's not worth it. Has anyone actually had it and did it work for you? Any input would be awesome! Thanks y'all!
