why I'll never do "income" based housing again. (just blowing off the steam)

fist off I just want to say I'm sure there are facilities out there that are really nice and well taken care of but where we lived pissed me off. 
we applied for income based housing because of my husband's previous job and we just couldn't live with his parents anymore. well we got the apartment which was awesome but after we were there for about a month we regretted it. the floors under the carpet are concrete and they are NOT water sealed so the carpet was ALWAYS damp. we later found out that the carpets had NEVER been cleaned so we rented a scrubber and the water was black which I'm assuming was a combination of mild and dirt. there was a horrible ant problem, they came up through the carpet around the walls. I just can't even deal with ants...we had to eat in The living room because the kitchen was small so if you dropped ANYTHING ants were everywhere. and the best part? the stupid bitch who "worked" in the office was NEVER there...ever. our toilet wouldn't flush for a week before we were able to contact someone and that's with me leaving messages everyday!
well I just got the lovely phone call about our security deposit and if we're done moving yet...apparently the security deposit fully depends on how clean the apartment is when you leave. trust me, were gonna clean but it needs to be "move in ready" so the janitor doesn't have to do anything....um excuse me. that's not in the lease first off and secondly it's NOT on the tenants to repaint the fucking apartment...like it says I. the lease we weren't allowed to paint so why is it that now I'm required to touch up all the paint when we're moving out? now just to clarify that if it was just scuff marks from daily living sure, no problem but they bought CHEAP SEMI GLOSS paint and use it in every room and obviously didn't prime anything because if there was moisture anywhere(bathroom, kitchen) it peeled like a hitch, like the paint just rubbed off the wall!!!!...seriously the pantry in the kitchen is a mess because they couldn't buy decent paint. so yeah, now I'm a little pissed. with all the carp we put up with living there this was kind of a smack across the face.
never will I do income based apartments again

My old Apts tried to keep my security deposit saying the carpets were dirty. Little did they know I hired a professional carpet cleaner a week before and took pictures of him cleaning the carpet . Sent them the pictures and mysteriously they sent me my deposit back. Take pictures when you leave you may need them!! Good luck!! :)

This happened to my mother-in-law. She lived in her apartment for 13 years. Never once did they come in to change the carpet or tile. Never answered when someone was wrong but always tried to get her to give her pictures of her cats (just in case they got out, very weird she never did it.). They kept renting the other apartments to really shady people and she couldn't take it anymore so we found her a nicer place. Well they refused to give her back her deposit because of stupid stuff that was never in her lease to begin with. Doesn't matter that I took a week off work to help her clean that entire house top to bottom, shampooed the carpets, bought new blinds and fixed a broken shower door.
But because we didn't clean out the fireplace (was never used once.), didn't paint over some cat scratches in the doorways and had tears in the cheap fake laminate tile they refused to give her back her deposit. And now we can't even get ahold of them to serve them papers for small claims. We can't afford a lawyer for her so we had to just let it go. She's happier and in a much nicer and quiter place now with no upstairs neighbors.

Yeah take pics and when you did a walk through did you write everything down? Any place  I get I write everything down I give them a copy and make them sign my copy that way they can't say they never new or received a copy. As well as have evidence (pics) . And if it's that bad, I would speak with the management company about it

Woweee that's a lot of BS. I will say though that I clean the hell our of everything when I leave so I get my entire deposit back. That's MY money. I want to leave it better than I found it so I don't lose out for anything.

When I was using income based housing it was actually alright. My main problem was my landlord. He creeped me the hell out. Always asking who my child's father was, if he'd be around and even told me not to have men come over..... Once he followed me to the grocery store then demanded that i talk to him about some nonsense that surely could've waited. He harassed a neighbor of mine (also a single woman) about her packing a suitcase into her car, he wanted to know where she'd be and how long she'd be gone. Reallllllly weird shit. If I hadn't needed an apartment so badly I'd have not done it. Later on found out the landlord was sexually assaulting his daughter. I got to make copies of the search warrant where officers found all the proof. I was disgusted. He got arrested and sent of to DOC thankfully. I got the hell out of there.

I pay $980 for my apartment and the landlord won't hire an exterminator when we had an ant problem and now we saw a mouse twice. It's freezing and the thermostat is locked up. It was a mess when we moved in and he only gave us a $100 credit to get a cleaner. They charged $250 and said the place was filthy.

There was poop on the toilet, toothpaste on the mirror, doors broken, holes in the wall, broken plates on the floor, a couch was left, dirt and cat litter everywhere, diapers in the hallway... All when I was trying to move in.

Sounds familiar with mine and my boyfriends old apartment we just moved out of. We were supposed to get a renovated apartment with usb plugs and nice counters and cabinets. But of course we didn't. We moved in a week later because the date they had us to move in they kept pushing back for some odd reason even tho they said the apartment was ready on the day we were supposed to move in. Our cabinet shelves were wood an they looks shitty. Bent broken and looked like it was wood shavings everywhere. The paint was coming off the walls. They painted over the door hinges. Above both showers their were holes. The apartment smelt like paint when we first move in. Carpets weren't clean. We had water roaches all the time no matter how clean we had the apartment. They gave us student discounts since my boyfriend was in school so from $800 to $776 was a good difference and for a two months they tried to get them to pay $800 after we told them out lease was $776 and they bitches and was like your complaining. About a $20 difference and we were like yes because $20 goes along way after a year. They took their time on fixing things they were rude women. Their apartments were crappy the roads were crappy. Anybody in Texas that lives in Irving don't go to residence at northgate apartments. Not worth your time. And money.
