Missed miscarriage

Yesterday we went in for a follow up sizing scan because my previous ultrasound was measuring all wrong. The baby was measuring two weeks further along but had no heartbeat. A couple hours after my appointment I started cramping and spotting, am I now having a miscarriage naturally?? Has anyone else had this before?? I would rather not have to have a D&C
