Tight budget?

Question

Does anyone live on a super tight grocery budget? Hubby and I are saving up for various household things (our tv is old and dying, bedding hasn't been updated in 3 years ect...) so we are penny pinching. 
A lot of stores around here have policies that make couponing very hard / almost impossible. 
What are your staple foods that you can buy a lot of and make various meals? 
We are trying to eat fairly healthy so whole, unprocessed food tips are appreciated!
Ps- it's just him and me, I am pregnant, he is trying to lose weight.

If you're from Canada or the US, these are a few of the ways I save money:
--- eBates: it actually works

--- Walmart Online: If you spend $50 or more, shipping is free. You save on gas, it saves you time, you don't get tempted by things you don't need, you can get it delivered on a schedule and  there are some bulk/wholesale items. And, you can use EBates to earn cash back to increase savings.

--- Buying meat at Costco in family packs and portioning it out saves money.  For Example:
A tray of 25-30 chicken thighs costs $18-$20.  For my SO and I, I separate them out into ziploc baggies 4-5 thighs/bag (I eat 1, he eats 2 for dinner, 2 for lunch). So, that one tray gets us about 4-7 meals.
---------- you can do the same with large roasts

--- always check clearance areas for sale items (like bread, fruit, veggies) that can be frozen!  If you do a lot of baking, you can also freeze milk/cream and eggs.

--- Crock pot meals= less money more flavor :)

I shop at Walmart for most of my groceries and use Swagbucks for coupons (and rewards points), Ibotta and Checkout51 for rebates and Walmart Savings Catcher. I already have a few hundred dollars worth of giftcard a I'm going to use on baby stuff.

Buy meats and freeze accordingly for exaple a pd of ground beef, divide in half & freeze... You can make endless possibilities...spaghetti,chili, hanbugerhelper, etc. I also like to buy big packs of pork chops and freeze two per bag, easy to thaw! Staying on budget is hard when it comes to food, ESPECIALLY when pregnant!

Stay away from all animal products, it's cheaper and way healthier anyways. Load up on rice and potatoes. Watch on YouTube the video on the starch solution. It's the cheapest way to eat that's also extremely healthy :)

We make a "meal plan" and make our grocery list around it. It really helps budget. Because you are able to make cheap and healthy meals and know exactly what you're eating every day. Like:

Salad and baked potato
Spaghetti
Chicken and rice casserole
Taco and potato soup (you can freeze these) 
Cobb salad...
And crock pot recipies! 
Look at pinterest for cheap dinners...I get alot of mine from there.

Only buy stuff if its on sale! And buy meat in bulk. Those are my only 2 rules lol.

My husband is on this really basic diet right now.
Oatmeal in the morning
Protein shake
Canned Chicken and a sweet potato for lunch
Protein shake
Salad with no dressing and chicken(you can add egg white and veggies)
Then a late night snack of plain yogurt.

We love Target organics!!! I use the target red debit card to save 5% on every transaction and I print their coupons off line. Once you do this for a while they start to send you big coupons in the mail as well. ($5 off $20 of fresh produce, etc.)

Most of the coupons that they have on line correspond with sales in their store as well. (For example the simply balanced organic Greek yogurt is normally $2.50, but it will be on sale for $2.00 and if you buy 2 you get a $1.00 off)
We also use their cartwheel app which gives you 5-10% off most of their private label items. (So in this hypothetical yogurt situation you would get a $2.50 item for $1.35.)

Beans are a good cheap source of protein that you can just throw in the crock pot. And always have on hand. The key is knowing what you and hubby will actually eat when you go grocery shopping. I used to get distracted at all the snacks and quick foods, but now I get bulk meat and only the necessities.
