Pcos and pregnancy symptoms?

I've just been diagnosed with pcos and I have irregular brown discharge, which my doctor said was basically my period as the lining is coming away gradually, rather than building up and coming away at once. So how will I know when I'm pregnant? I can't track my cycle with ovulation testing so I won't know if I've ovulated. My doctor wants me to try for a year before trying ovulation assisting drugs
