8 weeks appointment

Is it really normal for the Docs to make you wait until 8 weeks for an appointment? I'm just having a hard time with this concept. I TTC for 15 months, did all kinds of tests, tried Clomid which failed, and now I am miraculously getting positive tests at home, yet I have to wait another 3 weeks to have it confirmed by the Dr? And even then, I am seeing a nurse practitioner, and not my obgyn. Is this weird to anyone else? Or is this the standard norm?
