Finances...what do you do?

Question

I had to leave my job because I couldn't physically and mentally handle it any longer and my employer was not understanding (male in his late 60's) of any part of my pregnancy and doctors visits. I landed a part time WFH job but we are still short about $1k a month.

What do you do in your home to cut costs?

Cut out cable, buy "off brand" items (soap, tp, food,  etc), there are many ways to cut your grocery bill, check out other car insurance places to get cheaper rates, there are so many ways to cut expenses.

Do you mean you're $1k short for being able to pay bills? Or 1k down from what you were making.

Our biggest thing is to make sure we are NEVER spending an entire check. We always put something in savings, because you never know when something will pop up.

We only have internet, because of hubby's school. If you still want to watch TV and have a Samsung device get the app show box, tv shows for free :)

Buy simple groceries that you can use in multiple meals in bulk. Ex- Whole chicken, or frozen chicken breast will be cheaper than buying pre packaged pre cut fresh breast and you can buy in bulk, 1 chicken or 1 bag of frozen will last you a week of meals (for 2 people) rice, pasta, and potatoes are cheap starches that you can buy in bulk and make a lot of meals out of. 
Buy frozen fruits and veggies. 
Kick packaged foods like snacks, juice and soda. They will run up your grocery budget super quickly and not last. 
Stop eating out. Cook at home. 
When you need new clothing, sell some older pieces first. The app Vinted is really good, buyer pays shipping cost :)

We are nervous about my maternity leave because only 6 weeks out of 12 are paid. So my husband and I vowed to give up our daily Dunkin Donuts and he refinanced his car for a much lower payment. We are also talking about cutting back to basic cable.

Moderate everything. Buy the off brand things. Train self to be frugal

We rarely eat out. We also have changed from giving christmas/ anniversary/ valentines gifts to doing something fun around the house(new decor) or a family outting
