Flu shot?

I talked to my doctor and he suggested I get the flu shot(I am 35 weeks pregnant), and I don't usually get it because it seems like they get the strain wrong every year. I'm curious as to what you all are going to do? I have been sick with all terrible allergies that has turned into something a little worse and I'm afraid the flu shot will make me feel even more miserable. Will you get a flu shot this pregnancy?

I always get my flu shot, not for me, but to protect the people around me. This year it will also help protect my baby, who will be born mid December. I don't care if I get the flu, but I know it could potentially harm her.  There is obviously no guarantee that you will be protected from the flu, but I want to give my daughter extra immunity since she'll be born mid flu season.

I'm going to wait till after baby is born to take any shots . But that's just me ☺️

The reason why the flu shot is recommended in pregnancy is because pregnant moms are more likely to get hospitals or die from the flu compared to the general population. This is based on a study that was done during the 2009 flu pandemic.

The shot is safe during pregnancy. Of course some people might experience some minor adverse reactions such as muscle aches and fatigue a day or or two, which might feel more significant for you since you already have allergies. Since I'm a graduating med student going into ObGyn this year, I'm biased to recommend the shot since my biggest concern is safety for mom and the greater community. And I personally took it during my first trimester without any problems. But of course it's your decision to weigh out how important it is for you to 1) decrease the risk of suffering from a flu complication in these next couple weeks/protect others from getting the flu vs. 2) decrease the risk of you suffering from a adverse reaction that would make you an unhappy camper prior to your delivery date.

I don't remember the last time I have received a flu shot... I have not had the flu either and I work around high school kids.

My doc had said that this years strain is much better than the last couple, and if you do react to the shot (like a head cold or flu like symptoms) it means your immune system and the baby's, is going to be stronger

If you're 35 weeks pregnant I wouldn't worry about it. You're almost at the end of it and the flu hasn't picked up too much yet. I'm 40 weeks today and I'm just waiting until after she's born to get mine. That's been the plan the whole time for me, because I knew I wouldn't be pregnant for long during the flu season (and my doc doesn't recommend it either). That's just my two cents but do what you're comfortable with.
