What's your experience?: IUDs

Hi everyone,
I would be so grateful if you could tell me what your experience (bad and good) has been with IUDs (of any kind)! I am in a serious relationship but not married and not looking to have kids for 2+ years. I am considering the cooper IUD. Thank you!!

I too am in a serious relationship but not ready for children yet. I got the Mirena IUD in January and I absolutely love it. I have had no problems what so ever and I have not had a period since it was put in. Now my SO and I can be intimate and spontaneous without thinking about pills or condoms. I'm covered for up to 5 years and with health insurnace, it was completely free.

I had the mirena 5 year IUD and had absolutely no problems with it. I have no children so the insertion and first month of getting used to it came with mild cramps during intercourse. Other than that I had no problems and it made me feel better being protected without having to take the pill everyday. I recommend it and have friends who also love it as well.

I seriously reccomend it! I'm also in a committed, monogamous relationship and my SO and I don't want kids anytime soon. I went to Planned Parenthood and it was completely free. The copper IUD is supposed to give you heavier and crampier periods, but I haven't experienced that. With the right precaution (ibuprofen and heating pads) it should be manageable. You're supposed to be on your period when they insert it and you'll typically feel 3 very uncomfortable cramps. If you look at it as your basic invasive pap smear, it's not bad at all. The whole procedure is under five minutes. The PP staff were so nice and sweet and answered all of my questions. I love that it doesn't have hormones and that I don't have to remember a pill everyday! The initial discomfort is totally worth TWELVE YEARS of protection against pregnancy. I love it! Good luck :)
